Fèis Day on Saturday (23rd Feb)

We were delighted to have 100 participants at our Fèis Day on Saturday at Nairn Community and Arts Centre – we had four different levels of groupwork – Luchd-deanabh Ciùil, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. Rona Lightfoot held a very well attended Gaelic Song workshop enjoyed by young and old. We also had kids and adults trying out percussion instruments, shinty, learning a contemporary song ‘A Well for Zoe’, beginners penny whistle and a fiddle Masterclass with Graham Mackenzie and Duncan Chisholm.
The Family Cèilidh was amazing with sets played by : Duncan Chisholm and Marc Clement, then Gordon Gunn and Marc and also Graham Mackenzie and Ciorstaidh Beaton – the wealth of talent was fantastic. We all enjoyed an outstanding evening with further sets played by members of our Tutor Band :Hugh Marwick, Dave Martin, Graeme Mackay, Rachel Campbell, Graham Mackenzie, Gordon Gunn and Ciorstaidh Beaton – they were also joined by two of our participants on ‘spoons’ and ‘bones’ – the Cèilidh dances brought everyone onto the floor.
Our Cèilidh ended up with our Youth Ceilidh Band playing a couple of sets with Rachel Campbell and Graeme Mackay.  They were very lucky to have had support from Enterprise Music Scotland (with funds from Creative Scotland). All in all – a great day – we look forward to next year – see you same time, same place.
Many thanks to Fèisean nan Gàidheal, The Highland Council and Creative Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise for all their support.

2013 Tune a Week Challenge – week 7

Hi Tune a Week folk,
We are on week 7, so can you play 7 tunes without the music?
For the first batch of 10 tunes we have until about 10th March.
I have posted the next batch of 10 for those who are keen to get ahead. (approx mid May to learn these).
Again, I have chosen from the 3 sessions I attend, so hopefully everyone will have played some of the tunes before.
Best of luck with the next 10 – enjoy!
I have been asked about a get-together to play the tunes – what do you think?
cheers Jim
